Emergency crews respond to gas explosion in Lexington, service shut off for entire city

LEXINGTON, Mo. (KCTV) - Emergency crews in Lexington, Missouri, are at the scene of an explosion caused by a sub-contractor hitting a gas line.

It happened in the area of 18th Street between Franklin and South Street. The City of Lexington said there was an explosion and “multiple emergency agencies” are on the scene. It happened at approximately 7:45 p.m. Wednesday, April 9.

Liberty Gas has shut off service to the entire city of Lexington as a result, a city spokesperson said at 9:21 p.m. The City said gas will remain shut off throughout the night and into Thursday morning.

Authorities advised residents to avoid the area to allow for police, fire and EMS to respond to the scene.

Police said the gas line was struck behind the Walker-Nadler-Fuller Funeral Home. A city administrator said the line hit was owned by Liberty Gas Company.
